Robert Marshall

A great book about the first scientific explorations into the Brooks Range is "Alaska Wilderness" by Robert Marshall. Robert was a Forestry graduate student that spent several seasons in the 1930s living with the locals in Alaska and exploring the mountain ranges. Fantastic read. In 1996 I found myself treading along the same high alpine meadows that Robert wrote about so many years ago. I challenge anyone to match Robert's daily mileages on foot. That is if you believe in "Marshall Miles".
